How the auction works
Subscribe to take part
You need a free Closet Share account and to subscribe to auction alerts (My Account → Auctions). Then we can email you, and notify you on your phone if you use our app, when new pieces go up, when bidding is about to close, and if someone outbids you.
Starting bid
The lowest amount the first bid can be.
Minimum bid
Each new bid has to beat the current bid by at least the bid step, usually $5. The bid box always shows the lowest amount you can bid right now, and the quick buttons fill it in for you.
Reserve price
Some items have a secret lowest price we’ll accept. “Reserve not met yet” means the bids haven’t reached it; if time runs out before they do, the item isn’t sold. “Reserve met” means the bids are high enough, and the highest bidder wins when time runs out. If an item shows neither, it has no reserve, and the highest bid wins.
Bidding is private
Other bidders see you as “Bidder 1”, “Bidder 2” and so on, never your name.
No last-second sniping
A bid in the last 5 minutes adds 5 minutes to the clock, so everyone gets a fair chance to answer it.
Winning
The highest bid when time runs out wins. A bid is a promise to buy, so please only bid what you’re happy to pay.
Paying
Winners pay online by card within 48 hours. Auction items are paid in dollars; tokens can’t be used. If the winner doesn’t pay in time, the item may be offered to the next-highest bidder.
Getting your item
Pick up at 162 Mackenzie St, Sudbury (back parking lot, blue garage doors), by appointment during open hours. Some items can also be shipped; each item page says if it can.
